A tactics training allows young sportsmen to improve individual and group actions in a changing game environment. At the same time, it allows them to:

  • correctly apply attack and defense tactics in the offensive zone, in the middle zone and the defensive zone;

  • change the speed and rhythm when playing in attack;

  • to create a numerical advantage in a confined area, to reduce and complicate the possibility of attack by the opposing players during the defensive game;

  • play under conditions of the numerical inequality: Man Advantage and Man Down.

In addition, they should know and be able to play in all modern tactical dispositions.

Tactical skills of a hockey player are improved with the development of such qualities as visual control, rink vision, game thinking, and intuition.

Visual control is the player's ability of staying focused on the movements of partners and opposing players, as well as to track movements of the puck. It is closely connected with the rink vision (the ability to control any part of the hockey rink and the players on it).

Game thinking is a process of game situations analysis and making the immediate decision in the confrontation with the opposing player. Intuition in hockey can be called the ability of the player to make nonstandard decisions, thereby demonstrating the advanced game thinking skills.

The main ways to develop tactical skills are, as a rule, games, outdoor games, relay races. At first, children play and compete outside the ice to focus on understanding the process and evaluating the game situation. Then the skills are mastered on the ice in conditions close to the real game.
